FAQS

What is QUARRYCAST™?

QUARRYCAST™ is made from finely ground volcanic limestone mixed with resin. As the stone-rich alternative to both cast iron and acrylic it is 100% one piece, hand finished and packed with naturally desirable properties:
Warm
Due to the quality of the QUARRYCAST™ material it has high insulation
properties and is warm to the touch
Beautiful
The Volcanic Limestone delivers a naturally white, gloss finish
Strong
This raw material has special needle-like particles formed by the rock undergoing superheating. When mixed with resins these bond together to create an incredibly strong web. As well as being naturally white and naturally harder than acrylic, this makes QUARRYCAST™ incredibly strong and ensures no creaking or flexing of the bath
Renewable
Easy clean solid surface – as the material is solid all the way through, internal scratches simply polish out
Practical
Drillable for unique brassware installation
Unique
Hand finished interior — exterior can be painted or personalised after purchase

How do I find your products?

Please visit our ‘Find a Dealer’ page to search for your nearest displaying retailer or email info@vandabaths.com.

+

Where can I buy your products?

Victoria + Albert does not sell product directly. You can buy our products through any accredited retailer. Please visit our ‘Find a Dealer’ page to search for your nearest dealer. If you have any more detailed questions, please email info@vandabaths.com.

+

Do you have a showroom?

Yes, we have nearly 1,500 dealers around the world with our products on display. Visit our ‘Find a Dealer’ page to search for your nearest displaying dealer.

We also have two of our own ‘Specification Showrooms’ in London and Milan that are open to all to try a bath and learn about the brand. Nothing is sold from our specification showrooms. If you wish to make a purchase, please visit our ‘Find a Dealer’ page to search for your nearest dealer.

+

How much do your products cost?

Victoria + Albert products vary in price throughout the ranges, please ask your local dealer for pricing.

+

What colours do your baths come in?

All of our baths and basins come in standard White (SW) as well as six external paint finish options: Matt White (MW), Matt Black (MB), Gloss Black (BK), Light Grey (GR), Stone Grey (SG) and Anthracite (AN). Visit our ‘colour finishes’ page for more information.

Our baths and basins can also be custom finished after purchase. See ‘Can I paint the bath / vessel basin?’

For cleaning instructions on our painted products, see ‘How can I clean my painted bath, basin or vanity?’

+

Can I paint the bath / vessel basin?

As well as standard White, each of our baths and basins is available in six external paint finishes: Anthracite (AN), Gloss black (BK), Light grey (GR), Matt black (MB), Matt white (MW), Stone grey (SG). However if you require an alternative colour, it is possible to achieve after purchase by having it custom painted.

Having a smooth exterior surface, QUARRYCAST™ baths, basins and feet are easy to decorate using either oil or water based paints.

a. First rub down surface with a fine abrasive paper to form a key. Wipe down thoroughly to remove any dust before applying paint.
b. If your bath requires feet, use a pencil to mark the outline of each foot on the bath. Important: Do not paint over this area as it could result in poor adhesion and possible failure.
c. Following the paint manufacturer’s instructions, apply the paint to the bath. We recommend two topcoats. Use a smaller roller or brush, applying paint in a random fashion so as not to create paint lines.
d. If you wish to paint the feet follow the above procedure using a small brush or spray paint instead of a roller. Contrasting colours can look particularly attractive.
As before, do not paint the inside of the feet as it could result in poor adhesion and possible failure.
e. To finish, depending on the type of paint used, apply a coat of water or oil-based matt varnish to add further protection. This is however, not essential.

+

What is the lead time to receive Victoria + Albert products?

Due to a significant investment in stock, all QUARRYCAST™ products and accessories are usually same day. Final delivery to a local dealer takes an average of 3-5 days depending on location. However, if you are ordering a painted bath or vessel basin please allow up to a 6 week lead time.

If you require a product quickly, always check with your dealer for a delivery date prior to ordering.

+

How comfortable are your baths?

We spend a lot of time designing baths to suit a wide variety of bathing styles and orientations – from compact sit tubs perfect for reading in, to low-slung loungers that are great for reclining. Because of this, we strongly recommend that you speak to your dealer first about your bathing needs and always try before you buy.  Please visit our ‘Find a Dealer’ page to search for your nearest displaying retailer or email info@vandabaths.com.

+

Do I need a lot of space to have a freestanding bath?

It is a myth that you need a large space to fit in a freestanding bath. We have models that start from a compact 1,400mm length, plus because freestanding reveals more floor and wall surfaces that would otherwise be boxed in, our baths make bathrooms actually appear bigger.

+

Can I buy your products in other countries?

Yes, we stock product in the UK, USA, Australia, Canada and South Africa.  We also have distributors around the world.  Sourcing locally has the advantage of avoiding international shipping charges and offers local product support at the point of installation. For information on your nearest dealer visit our ‘Find a Dealer’ page or email info@vandabaths.com.

+

Who do I contact if I have technical installation questions on the bath?

In the first instance, please check the PDF fitting instructions available to download from the relevant product page of this website.

If you still have a question, contact the dealer that sold you the product or our technical department on +44 1952 221100 or info@vandabaths.com.

+

For baths with feet, can any style of foot be ordered with a bath?

To maximise strength and design coherence, each foot will only suit the single bath for which it was designed. However most feet do come with different metal finish options.

+

How easy is it to install the bath?

Our products are designed to be easily installed. We recommend that this is only done by a professional installer. Bath products come with comprehensive installation instructions which need to be followed. These can be found at the PDF download link situated on every product page of this website. We strongly advise that in conjunction with your installer you review the instructions prior to purchase.

+

Do your products come with a guarantee?

Yes, Victoria + Albert Baths guarantee its products to be free of defects in material and workmanship, subject to meeting the terms and conditions specified. Visit our Guarantee page for full details and to register your product within 30 days of installation.

+

Do I have to use your taps on the baths and vice versa?

No the taps and baths can be bought independently and mixed with other products.

+

How do I clean my QUARRYCAST™ product?

For light daily use, simply rinse with clean warm water. If any marks are not being removed with this method, then we recommend a non-abrasive bathroom or kitchen household cleaner. Bleach-based cleaning products are compatible with QUARRYCAST™, although for environmental reasons we do not recommend them. Abrasives will cause the disappearance of the glossy look over a long period. Should you need to clean the bath with an abrasive cleaner, as may be required after heavy use, polishing with a car polish or household metal polish will restore the bath’s
lustre.

+

What do I do if I scratch my bath / vessel basin and it leaves a mark?

QUARRYCAST™ is scratch resistant. However if any scratches do occur in extreme conditions, such as installation, these can be removed by rubbing with a 1,500+ grit waterproof abrasive paper and water. Re-polish the surface afterwards using a neutral automotive colour restorer or household metal polish. Deeper scratches may require a more abrasive paper to be used initially. If this is the case work your way up to 1,500 grit gradually and re-polish. For best results, limit sanding to the smallest possible area around the scratch. It may be possible to polish very fine scratches away without using abrasive papers: scrubbing gently with a soft brush or plastic pad (not metal scouring pad) and a mildly abrasive cream cleaner or toothpaste. Afterwards scrub the whole area with plenty of clean water and re-polish as before.

+

Some baths do not come with an overflow, is this normal?

For the ultimate in clean lines most of our modern baths do not come with an overflow hole. Overflow protection is provided with our patented K40 waste kit and this combination meets building regulations / plumbing code in every market.  For most Victoria + Albert non-overflow baths, an overflow hole can still be custom drilled if required and a suitable Victoria + Albert waste kit is available (see ‘Do you have recommended wastes for different baths?’)

+

Do I need special tools to drill an overflow or tap hole in my bath?

No, due to the inherent strength and stability of QUARRYCAST™, holes can be drilled easily using a standard hole saw and arbor. More information is available on the PDF ‘How to drill tap holes’ available for download on each bath product page.

+

Do you have recommended wastes for different baths?

Thanks to extensive research and development Victoria + Albert have developed a unique selection of design solutions to deal with a bath’s waste water.  Our waste kits come in a range of special metal finishes and include formats with and without overflow holes.

The patented K40 ‘intelli-waste’ provides up to 36 litres a minute of overflow protection at 40cm without the need of an overflow pipe – perfect for our non-overflow models.

For those who require a non-standard bath depth, the K17 waste features an overflow pipe whose hole can be drilled on site by your installer.

For our classic selection of baths that feature pre-drilled overflows we offer two waste kits, the K30 with a ‘push control’ plug and K31 with a traditional plug and chain.

Please see the individual bath product page for specific information on waste requirements.

+

Do you have recommended wastes for different basins?

We recommend our K19, K20 or K21 wastes with our K22 for all our vessel basins They include the option of a Flush fitting ‘captive’ plug, a ‘lift and turn’ or a ‘freeflow’ insert and come in a range of special metal finishes.

For the internal overflow basins included in our vanity furniture, a slotted waste is included in our Florin 9 and Staffordshire 9 widespread taps.  The plug is rod operated.

Please see the individual product page for more specific information on these waste kits.

+

How much do the baths weigh?

Baths are around the weight of a person (50kg – 99kg ) depending on the model. This means that they are light enough to not typically require floor reinforcement, however they are far more substantial than lightweight acrylic alternatives.

+

How much volcanic limestone is in each bath?

QUARRYCAST™ consists of 50% volcanic limestone for strength and natural whiteness and 50% high quality resins for stain resistance and ambient warmth.

+

Can I use hair dye with your QUARRYCAST™ products?

QUARRYCAST™ has excellent stain resistance, so hair dye like henna can be safely used. We do recommend that it is NOT kept in overnight and the product is rinsed out with clean warm water after use.

+

Where are your products made?

All our QUARRYCAST™ baths and basins are manufactured in our own facilities in South Africa. Our brassware and furniture products are made in England. You can follow the story of how our products are made and see our unique facilities by watching our videos here.

+

Are your baths delivered with the feet or plinths attached?

No, any feet or additional plinths will require easy assembly on site using the fitting instructions provided.

+

What is the difference between QUARRYCAST™ and metal feet?

Both material options provide exceptionally high strength and are carefully engineered to fit to the outside of the bathing well. The metal versions have the added advantage of height adjustable ground anchor mechanisms that make it easy to achieve perfect levelling on installation.

+

If I order a painted bath, will the feet be painted?

Yes, the feet will be supplied in the same colour paint finish to match the bath as standard. However, we also have a range of premium metal feet options for you to choose from.

+

What material is your furniture made from?

Our vanity furniture is made from the finest European FSC-certified hardwoods including Cherry and Beech. Vanities with an integrated basin feature a one-piece QUARRYCAST™ top. Vanities with a flat deck suitable for mounting a freestanding vessel feature a toughened glass top.

+

Does your vanity furniture come in different colours?

With the exception of the Gloss Black (BK) Stiletto 110 Glass and Light Grey (GR) Bosa 112 Glass, every Victoria + Albert vanity is available in a choice of two colours.  Check the relevant product page on this website for options.

See also ‘How can I clean my painted bath, basin or vanity?’

+

Can the external surface of your painted baths, basins and vanities be repaired?

Touch up paint for our painted baths, basins and vanities is available from customer services for small repairs up to 60mm^3 (Approx. size of a UK/US Penny). Instructions will be supplied with the touch up paint. Email info@vandabaths.com for your paint kit.

+

How can I clean my painted bath, basin or vanity?

Gloss surfaces (BK) can be cleaned with neutral soaps and warm water, anything more stubborn can be polished with a POLISH-KIT available from customer services.

Matt surfaces (Light Grey, Stone Grey, Anthracite, Matt white, Matt Black) must not be polished and can be cleaned with a specialist matt finish cleaner like Flitz. Specialist matt finish cleaners will help ensure the finish remains matt. Please follow the instructions on the packaging and ensure the cleaning is not under hard pressure as this can remove the matt finish.

Any spillages on the outside or inside surfaces of the vanity need to be cleaned up immediately. The inside cherry timber should be cleaned with a neutral soap and warm water. Glass tops should be cleaned with standard window cleaner.
